Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Egg-free - therefore not rubbery!
- It's super quick - it takes a few minutes to mix and 1 minute to cook in the microwave (timing can vary between microwave ovens).
- Optional chocolate chips for even more tastiness.
Recipe Ingredients

Note: The full quantities are shown in the recipe card below.
- Self-raising flour - also known as self-rising flour.
- Baking powder - for extra fluffiness. Do not use baking soda (bi-carb), as it doesn't provide the same rise.
- White sugar - can be caster or granulated.
- Cocoa powder - unsweetened is the best.
- Unsalted butter - melted. You could substitute butter for vegetable oil.
- Milk - I use light milk, but you could also use full cream milk.
- Chocolate chips - are purely optional but definitely a must!
How to Make a Chocolate Mug Cake

Serving Suggestions
This Chocolate Mug Cake can be enjoyed on its own with a dusting of icing sugar, or for a more indulgent treat, you could add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

If we don't have self-raising/rising flour, how much baking powder and salt would one use here?
Vicki says
Hi Monika, I'm not sure of the exact quantities for this recipe. To make one cup of self-raising flour from all purpose/plain flour, whisk together with 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder and a ¼ teaspoon of salt. Vicki.
